Backloggd (backloggd.com) is a video game collection tracker and review community: players mark games as Played, Playing, Backlog or Wishlist, write a log, rating and review for each playthrough, and turn their gaming history into a shareable public profile through lists and follows. The problem it solves is that console and PC gaming is scattered across many platforms, with no unified "mark as played" record — the About page puts it as "There's Goodreads for books, Letterboxd for movies, and now Backloggd for games." Its verifiable differences from similar tools: every feature is free with no functional paywall; all game data comes from the community-driven IGDB database; and the whole site was built and run by a single independent developer, who only went full-time in 2025.

The screenshot above shows the logged-out homepage: under the tagline "Discover, collect, analyze your games," live counters report 69.2M logged plays across 373K games, 41.2M ratings, 4.84M reviews and 840K lists (as displayed on 2026-09-25), followed by a wall of recently trending covers. None of this browsing requires an account.

Background
The developer is publicly known by his on-site handle JackBros — his profile bio reads "Hey it's me! The creator of backloggd!" — and his real name is not published anywhere we could verify; the site footer names the entity Backloggd LLC. According to the first-anniversary post on the official Medium blog (2019-08-12), "the first files were created for Backloggd" on August 10, 2018, and exactly one year later, on 2019-08-10, the site reached 1.0. An April 2019 monetization post says the site had been funded out of pocket until then, when three "non-intrusive" funding methods including Patreon were introduced. In a January 2025 announcement, the author wrote that Patreon support let him turn Backloggd from a spare-time side project into his full-time job.
On scale, the official 2025 year-in-review reports over 650,000 registered users, with 31.5 million games logged, 4.8 million journal entries, 1.5 million reviews and 285,000 new lists in 2025 alone. Development proceeds through a public changelog: version 1.14.4 launched the Discovery Engine in June 2025, October 2025 brought a game-page redesign with "edition combining," December added custom covers, and the site reached version 1.18 in 2026.
Core features
Journaling at the center of the collection
The unit of record on Backloggd is the log — one per playthrough. You can keep multiple logs per game, each with its own platform, medium (physical/digital), start and end dates, playtime, rating and review; the journal is a calendar view of which days you played what, with up to eight tags per play session. Games carry four status toggles (Played / Playing / Backlog / Wishlist), and "Played" breaks down into Completed, Abandoned, Retired and Shelved; separate Library Entries track where and how you own a game (terminology in the FAQ).

Above is the page for 2025 hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a good sample of what community data looks like: an average rating of 4.6 with a distribution histogram, 110K plays, 32K backlogs, 25K wishlists, 87K ratings and 19K reviews, plus community-derived playtime figures (47h average, 42h to finish, 65h to master). "Stats for all versions" indicates these numbers aggregate every edition of the game, and a "More info on IGDB" link sits at the top right. Two rating details are worth knowing: if you have several logs for one game, only one counts toward its average (the most recent by default); and sorting by rating uses a weighted average blended with the site-wide mean — marked with a blue asterisk — so obscure games with a handful of high scores don't dominate the charts. Ratings can be displayed on a 5-star or 10-star scale.
Lists, follows and community events
Lists are one of the earliest versioned features (1.1.0), with custom ordering, likes, search and folders; following other users fills your home feed with their recently finished games, and reviews and comments support Markdown plus @-mentions. Community events are a tradition: an annual Game of the Year vote, "Replay Events" that revisit a past year's games together, themed-list "Showdowns," and profile badges for participation.
Discovering games

The game browser shown above pairs the cover grid with a full filter set — game category (main game, expanded, remake, remaster, port, mod, DLC, and more), release year, genre, platform, rating range, and an unusual Obscurity slider; the page counted roughly 319K games on 2026-09-25. Since June 2025 the site also runs a Discovery Engine (open beta, sign-in required) that recommends games based on your ratings and can exclude anything already on your backlog or wishlist.
Pricing: free, plus one supporter tier
The Backers page lays out both tiers plainly: the free tier includes unlimited logging, lists, reviews and journaling, with 14 days of recent activity history. Backer costs $3/month via Patreon and adds an ad-free experience, a BACKER badge, a personalized all-time stats page, a yearly stats recap, home-page widget customization, 60 days of activity, first-look previews and beta access, and an exclusive Discord channel. In other words, payment buys stats and supporter recognition — there is no functional paywall.

The site's other income comes from third-party ads shown to free users (served by Venatus) and sponsored Humble Bundle links (disclosed in the Terms of Service).
Accounts and openness
Registration asks only for a username (3–16 characters, letters/digits/underscores), an email and a password, with email verification; per the Terms, unverified accounts idle for three months may be terminated. Openness is the site's clearest weakness: there is no public API, no import from Steam/PSN/Xbox or anywhere else, and no CSV export — building a library means searching and adding games one at a time. Steam import and CSV import/export have sat in the voting stage of the public roadmap for years. The roadmap itself is part of how the product is governed: each user gets a limited number of votes to set development priorities. The code is closed source (the GitHub organization has no public repositories), and official iOS/Android apps remain roadmap items — the FAQ states plainly there is no app "at this time."
Content and copyright policy
As a UGC community, Backloggd maintains unusually specific Community Guidelines (updated 2026-04-10, covering reviews, lists, comments, profiles and more): reviews must engage with the game itself — reviews that state the author hasn't played it, without substantive evaluation, are removed (with an appeal path); AI-generated content and plagiarism are strictly prohibited; significant spoilers require a Spoiler Warning tag; drive-by promotional links are banned; hate and harassment are prohibited. Reports go through an in-site flag tool to a human moderation team; violations are removed with a warning, and repeats can lead to suspension or termination. On data and cover copyright, all game information and artwork come from IGDB, a community-driven database operated by Twitch; users cannot upload covers, only choose among the default, regional and edition covers IGDB already hosts. On privacy, the Privacy Policy (2026-07-22) states that even logged-out browsing is tracked via Google Analytics (IP address, device, pages visited); it pledges not to sell personally identifiable information; deactivated accounts are retained, and permanent deletion is self-serve from the settings page.
Good fit for
- Turning years of cross-platform gaming into a shareable archive (lists + rating curve + journal calendar).
- Reading and writing game reviews in a "Letterboxd for games"-style English-speaking community.
- Discovering games through themed lists, annual GOTY votes and Replay events.
- A lightweight, manual logging habit that doesn't depend on linking platform accounts.
Limitations
- Manual entry only: no platform import, so large libraries are costly to build; your data can't be exported or pulled via API either.
- No official app: mobile means the adapted website; iOS/Android apps are still roadmap votes.
- English only: no Chinese or other language UI; even "tag your review's language" is still unimplemented on the roadmap.
- One developer, upstream-dependent: feature pace and data accuracy hinge on one person and on IGDB; new games and covers only appear after IGDB lists them.
- Free accounts keep 14 days of activity: full activity history and all-time stats are Backer perks.
- Anonymous browsing is tracked: logged-out visits still go through Google Analytics and ad cookies.
Alternatives to consider
- Letterboxd / Goodreads: the film and book counterparts Backloggd openly models itself on.
- HowLongToBeat: a game tracker known for completion-time data, with weaker social and review features.
- Backloggery: a long-running manual tracker, also free, with a plainer interface and minimal community features.
